As the sport of Futsal continues to grow in the US, the opportunity to bring a men's semi-pro team to the Ann Arbor area was one that couldn't be passed up. The ownership group, which consists of Bilal Saeed (Current owner of AFC Ann Arbor NPSL team), Ubusuku Abukusumo (Former MLS Columbus Crew and USMYNT player), and Drew “Ducks” Ducker (Former US Men’s Futsal National Team Player and pro indoor player) are looking forward in expanding the game of Futsal throughout Washtenaw County as they begin their second year of operations. With the growth of Futsal in Michigan and the diverse community Washtenaw County has, we are hoping to bring people of all walks of life together in this fast pace, high intensity game that is played all around the world. If you like basketball, hockey, or soccer, you're going to love Futsal.
After the Mudpuppies first season in the NAPFL concluded, the league was folded as the teams merged into the NFPL (National Futsal Premier League). The NFPL will consist of 7 teams this year, with more teams on the docket for 2020 already. The league includes teams from Chicago, Grand Rapids, Lansing, Detroit, Ann Arbor, Columbus, and Indianapolis. Each team will play 12 games, 6 home and 6 away. League play kicks off January 2019.
The Mudpuppies will see many returning players this season, as well as newcomers from the local area. As players from the local area continue to rise, we want to be a stepping for him to continue their path in Soccer, whether it’s outdoor, indoor, or Futsal.
